Though I have not used it myself, milkpaint is a very environmentally
friendly finish. In a recent visit to the Strong Museum in Rochester New
York, one of the exhibits technicians showed me several exhibits that
had a milkpaint finish. They received a fair amount of uses and still
appeared as new. I believe they also top coated the paint with a low VOC
clear finish. It might be worth giving them a call.
