Forwarded from the Society for Clay Pipe Research list. Dr. Atkinson
is widely known in British historical archaeology and for many more
things than Clay Tobacco Pipes.

Subject: Sad News
Dear Members
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the sad passing
of one of our long standing members. David Atkinson, one of the
founding fathers of modern clay pipe research, passed away in October
2011. News has only just reached us.
If you have any memories of David that you would like to share, or any
tributes you would like to make, then please let me know. I am going
to be holding back the publication of the next newsletter for a few
days in order to give people a chance to get notes to me so that they
can be included in our next issue.
With best wishes,
Susie
