SCHAC 13 is coming!
The 13th more-or-less annual South Central Historical Archeology
Conference will be held this fall, 18-20 November, 2011, at
Winterville Mounds Historic Site near Greeneville, MS. (Yes, I know
it's an amazing ancient Native American site, but it's also a
comfortable place for historical archeologists to gather.) Our host
is Mark Howell, archeomusicologist and site superintendent. If you
are tired of overwhelming numbers of people and papers, or have never
or rarely presented a paper, come to SCHAC and tell us what you are
doing. And then publish your paper online on the SCHAC web site (see below).
It'll be the usual follies, Friday afternoon touring and evening get
together and rally, Saturday papers plus 5 minute business meeting
and then evening frivolity (likely blues and BBQ this time), Sunday
morning workshop (ideas? requests?). And one must remember the
dazzling prizes to be awarded, the most coveted being "Best Paper
Title." The actual prize circulates from winner to winner year after
year, because it indeed is too stunning and particularly dazzling to
be permanently given to one scholar alone, forever. There's also a
prize for most number of slides in a talk, but we don't tell anybody
about this award to avoid overlong papers. Oops.
Attendance is limited to maybe 35 or 40 or maybe a couple more if
they really really want to come. OK, 50 maybe. Watch for further
announcements on Histarch and on the SCHAC web page at
http://www.uark.edu/campus-resources/archinfo/schac.html . For more
information and to submit paper abstracts, email Program Chair and
SCHAC President Liz Davoli at [log in to unmask] .
