The tobacco can is a type used for pipe smokers and if memory serves 
me  it was Prince Albert (?).

The tab was the seal for the can and/or maybe a can of Skol.

There was a standing joke among young boys on the phone that went, 
"Do you have Prince Albert in the can?" and if the answer was yes, 
"Well let him out!" But OF COURSE, I never did such a childish stunt! 
Only when I could get on one of those 4 party lines. Of course that 
was in my primitive days.........
