Why not?
If you go with intent, & not content...
Did people in the past worry whether they mixed soil with their trash? Or
just throw stuff away?

But where's the "soil" in your midden? Minus the soil, you would just have
a layer of paper, glass and metal trash. Can a midden just be a large pile
or layer of paper trash?
