well, judging from the burgeoning trade deficits, selling things to other 
countries hasn't seemed too important a criterion for American manufacturers 
..

besides, Americans are predominantly in "buy" rather than "sell" mode ... 
and even the Arabs and OPEC still sell us oil in Imperial barrels ;)

... it still irritates me that I had to buy a whole new set of (metric) 
tools to work on my Volkswagen :(
