You don't need to send them off as you can easily check at home. All you
need is an 'every schoolboy should have one' microscope giving 400x
magnification and some recently dead bees. In fact you could ask school kids to do it for
you.
What I don't think you can do at home though is to distinguish between
Nosema apis and N. ceraneae.
