Dear Historical Archaeologists:

I am a master's student in the School of Library and Information Science
at San Jose State University. I am beginning a thesis study examining how
historical archaeologists utilize archives as part of their research. The
goal of this study is to give archivists information on how to better meet
the research needs of archaeologists investigating historical sites and
persons.

As part of my study, I will be conducting a survey online that will be
open to historical archaeologists around the country. The survey should
not take more than thirty minutes of your time. I would appreciate if you
would consider participating. Your responses will give greater insight
into changes archives and archivists can implement to make your archives
experiences easier and more worthwhile. If you wish to take part, you can
find the survey at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=wVIO1OqY5TZQYAMho0Uunw_3d_3d.

In accordance with archival and research ethical standards, I give you my
assurance that any personal information given in the survey will be
treated with confidentiality. No risks are anticipated. No service of
any kind, to which you are otherwise entitled, will be lost or jeopardized
if you choose to "not participate" in the study. Your consent is being
given voluntarily. You may refuse to participate in the entire study or in
any part of the study. You have the right to not answer questions you do
not wish to answer. If you decide to participate in the study, you are
free to withdraw at any time without any negative effect on your relations
with San Jose State University or with any other participating
institutions or agencies.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Borchardt
