POSITION: The George Washington's Fredericksburg Foundation (GWFF) seeks
applicants for the position of Artifact Analyst. Located in
Fredericksburg Virginia, the museum operates three historic sites
associated with the Washington family - Ferry Farm, Kenmore, and
Accokeek Iron Furnace. The primary archaeological research is performed
at Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of George Washington. Large-scale,
open-area excavation has been underway for the past six years, and will
continue indefinitely. The University of South Florida (USF) is a
project partner offering an annual field school. In return, Ferry Farm
offers research opportunities for USF graduate students.
DUTIES: The duty of the Artifact Analyst is to conduct artifact-based
research in the context of the ongoing excavation program. The results
of this work will be disseminated through publications and presentations
for the general public and professional audiences. The collection is
largely from the colonial period, but contains components related to the
Civil War and Prehistory. In addition, the Artifact Analyst is
responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Department's GIS
databases and the cataloging of the small finds collection into an
Access database.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MA in anthropology, archaeology, history, or
closely related field and three years of professional experience in
archaeology, including laboratory work, artifact analysis, or small
finds cataloging. A working knowledge of ArcGis and Access is required
as are excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Special consideration will be given to applicants demonstrating prior
experience in working with colonial material culture, original
documents, historical archaeology of the Chesapeake region, and
Mid-Atlantic prehistory.
This is a permanent, full-time position. GWFF offers competitive
salaries and a full benefit package.

APPLY: Please submit via email, a cover letter, resume, three
references, and a writing sample of independently produced work to:
