Here is a button Biblio sent to the HistArch list by Vergil Noble back in
the mid-90s. I am a compulsive collector of biblios. I first got onto this
list in the Spring of 1994 and it was a few years before I knew enough to
add the senders names and dates to these. Anyway, for what it is worth.
Smoke.
The button bibliography below was found on the net by a NPS colleague.
It may be of use to some HISTARCH subscribers. Although extensive, it
is far from comprehensive. Some omissions I note are:
Luscomb, Sally C., 1967, The Collector's Encyclopedia of Buttons;
Bonanza Books, New York.
Olsen, Stannley J., 1963, "Dating Early Plain Buttons by Their Form,"
American Antiquity 28(4).
Olsen, Stanley J., and J. Duncan Campbell, 1962, "Uniform Buttons as
Aids in the Interpretation of Military Sites," Curator 5(4).
South, Stanley,, 1964, "Analysis of the Buttons from Brunswick Town and
Fort Fisher," The FLorida Anthropologist, 17(2).
Warren K. Tice, 1997, Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865;
Thomas Publications, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Martin A. Wyckoff, 1984, United States Military Buttoonns of the Land
Services, 1787-1902; Mclean County Historical Society, Bloomington,
Illinois.
The bibliography as posted by its compiler follows.
