I can probably make a cd version of the report. You should realize that we knowing nothing about foundries before the excavations, so we decided to do only preliminary tests to see what remained. Those tests revealed numerous features from the foundry, which has not been disturbed since it burned to the ground in 1889. We left all features intact and did no further digging until such time that the expertise could be obtained. The foundry does show on an 1884 Sanborn map, so we had a pretty good idea going in what we might encounter. The site itself is a National Historic Landmark for its association with the Underground Railroad (not the industry).

Kim,
Besides looking into the Society for Industrial Archaeology webpage
(www.sia-web.org) you should check out Michigan Tech's excavations at
the West Point Foundry in Cold Spring, NY at this webpage:
www.westpointfoundry.org.

Being a Tech grad, I conducted my masters research at the West Point
Foundry, specifically the boring mill, so if you have any questions
about that, please feel free to email me.

My historical research for the project also brought me to the
Tredegar Iron Foundry in Virginia. Perhaps that would be of more use
because it was a confederate foundry for a time. I can email you a
few resources for that later.
Hope this was helpful!
