POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

FIELD ASSISTANT / LABORATORY ASSISTANT

Mount Vernon Archaeology seeks FIELD / LABORATORY ASSISTANTS to help in
the cataloguing of artifacts excavated at George Washington's distillery
and with various field projects on the plantation.  After a multi-year
excavation, artifacts from the distillery are being catalogued and
analyzed.  This assemblage consists of domestic artifacts and
architectural remnants dating from the period 1797 - 1814.  Limited
field excavations are anticipated over the next several months
supporting a variety of restoration projects located within Mount
Vernon's historic core.

Under the direction of Mount Vernon staff, the field / lab assistants
will carry out the full range of standard excavation and laboratory
procedures, as well as supervise student interns and volunteers.  Other
responsibilities include artifact processing and analysis, public
interpretation, collections management tasks and assisting in other
archaeological projects at Mount Vernon.  As part of the professional
archaeological team, the successful applicant will work on Mount
Vernon's public archaeology initiatives including interpretation,
website development, staff training and educational ventures.

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology
or a related field, and have experience in excavation and laboratory
work.  Experience with Rediscovery Software is preferred.  

Salary is $12.00 / hour and is funded for 9 months.  There are no
benefits.
