In case anyone is unaware of this new phenomenon in our midst, Charlotte
Church is a soprano who was disccovered on a TV talk show "phone-in" talent
contest here in Britain. After making quite an impression, she was taken
up by a record company and has appeared a lot on TV whilst her CD has
rocketed to the top of the charts. What's so unusual about her? Well,
Charlotte Church is only 12-years-old. There have been some articles
pointing out that such a good voice as she clearly has should be being
trained and preserved for later, not flogged to death at a time when her
body is still developing. My own feeling is that, like David Helfgott
for different reasons, the musical value of what she does is debatable.
