Rock candy is made by putting a string into a concentrated sugar
solution. The stage for feeding to bees is at the upper end of the soft
ball stage. That is the first part of the basic recipe for making
fondant, another bee food. I have not noticed large crystals in the soft
ball candy. Truth is, the heat and moisture coming in contact with it
does a good job of liquefying it at the surface no matter what you have
in the hive.
