Hello All,
Midwestern beekeeper report:
Calls are being made to the Midwest asking ( begging) for hives.
Standards which were asked early on have been dropped. Four frames of bees
minimum are NOW being accepted.. The original was for a 7 frame minimum
which did not interest Midwestern beekeepers so most stayed home.
Loads are starting to move towards California. I am involved with a load
leaving Monday. I do not believe calls for hives would be happening if a
glut of bees.
Package bees:
I had a call from Australia a couple weeks ago and the package shipper said
he was over booked on package orders with a waiting list ( numbers up from
last year).
The package bees being shipped in ends as soon as hives are placed in
almonds ( orders stop!)so if not going into almonds either as a package or
to boost hives then where are they going?
Why would beekeepers pay over a $100 for a package in January/february if
they did not think they would get a return on their investment?
