Hi Barbara!
Maybe 8 years ago or so, the Exploratorium created a wonderful
temporary exhibition called "Revealing Bodies", exploring the
intersection of science, culture, and individuality through different
perspectives on body imagery. I was working at COSI Toledo then, and
made a trek out here to see it and fell in love with some of the pieces.
If it's of interest, let us know and we could put you in touch with
some of the project team....

Revealing Bodies documented how humankind has inspected and depicted
our bodies for scientific and medical purposes over the centuries.
The exhibition went a step further to look at how these
representations of the body have shaped society—"the social,
political, and cultural 'outcomes' of body images," as Project
Codirector Melissa Alexander put it. Visitors explored these outcomes
through a rich mix of images, models, cultural relics, preserved
specimens, art, interactive activities, special programs, and more...
Best from the Bay-

PS - I've had the chance to see the Amazing Bodies show down at the
Don Harrington Discovery Center, produced by HandsOn! Good show!
One of the best heartbeat visualizers I've seen - it has a physical
beater that puffs out a fine red powder, dramatically lit, in
casing. Really elegant take on the physiological process.

What are your visitors' favorite exhibits on the human body? The
Arizona Science Center is looking for proven winners to put in a new
area on human biology. Please let us know the best and brightest,
either at your institution or at some place you've visited.
Thanks!
