Hi all,
We're curious if anyone's had experience or can comment on the state
of the art in large format printing lately. We're going to be
getting some medium to large (i.e. room-sized) photo murals and some
contour-cut stuff done in the next few months (all of which will end
up within reach of the public on the museum floor), so we're trying
to get educated on the current state of the printing world.
Apparently the latest thing is UV curable flatbed printers, which can
print directly on many substrates. This is attractive to us
especially in terms of contour-cut pieces. However, we'd really like
to hear real-world reports about this process: does the image
scratch, flake, spall off the substrate? any pitfalls in terms of
substrate choice? can it stand up to museum visitors?
If you have any comments on this or other large-format printing
methods, we'd love to hear 'em!
Thanks,
--Allan Ayres
