Hi Wendy,
Interesting relationship between the issues raised in this article,
and the upcoming "Visitor Voices in Museum Exhibitions" book that
you and Kathy are working on. (Too bad the article helps "celebrate"
Father's Day by perpetuating the well-meaning, but misguided, Dad
stereotype, ala Homer Simpson.)
If many museums set themselves up as the places with all the right
answers and the "mantles of authority" mentioned in the article,
rather than places to explore ideas, aren't they modeling exactly the
sort of behavior this article describes?
History and Science museums seem to be the worst offenders in this
regard, with their compulsion to overstuff their exhibitions with
minutiae.
