Hi David,
You probably know this but there's got to be some very good historical
stuff at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England. They have
Harrison's H-1 Chronometer among other things. Also, check with the
Science Museum in South Kensington, London. They've also got some
terrific stuff on time and time keeping.

The National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of American
History are collaborating on an exhibition on the history and continued
importance of time in navigation. The basic message: if you want to know
precisely where you are, you need an accurate clock. The exhibition will
cover
the history of timekeeping and its relationship to navigation on the sea
and the
land and in the air and in space, from the invention of the chronometer
to
atomic clocks and GPS.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any particularly well done
exhibitions on
this subject that are currently on view.
