Joan, We don't do anything like you're doing with girls and engineering
- at least not yet. I'm looking into some possibilities to tie into
National Engineers Week in Feb (very big locally and we now have a new
S.W.E. group that is interested in helping). I'm interested in hearing
some of the things others have tried.

But, Regina, we do a Women in Science Day toward the end of March.
We've done it for about 7 years now. Essentially I have 2 main things
going on. I have women/volunteers dress up as famous women scientists
throughout history and they do a hands-on activity with visitors that
corresponds to their discipline. Usually have about 6 women do this. I
pair them up at an 8' table (try to match disciplines as much as is
possible) and one of the women has an activity that is a Make It Take It
and the other is just a great hands-on activity with microscopes, etc.
I run it from about 11 am till 4pm. Two years ago we even added trading
cards to the day. The 2nd part of the day is I have guest speakers that
are prominent women scientists from the local community. I try to pick
odd careers that girls don't often associate with women.

It's a really cool day. We usually get a lot of Girl Scouts coming as
well.

Lou

Hi Joan,
We are planning a "Women in Science" month for March. Since we're in
the planning stages, any suggestions you have for us will be
appreciated. If there are others who have developed an event similar to
this, I would love to hear your ideas.
Thanks,
Regina

We just finished our second annual day-long program that introduces
middle school girls to engineering careers. I'm curious how many other
museums are doing programming similar to this? If you offer this type of
program, how many girls do you serve each year/program? Brief details of
the program would be appreciated! Thanks!
