If nobody has mentioned it yet, you might want to look at the American
Medical Association's volumes "Propaganda for Reform in Proprietary
Medicine" in the Internet Archive's texts.

The products are listed by name along with various chemical analyses and
discussions. These are probably later than you want but may still be
useful.
