I don't think the problem is the *time* it takes to get fdn drawn out, but
this: queens seem much more eager to lay eggs in clean black combs than
either light combs or new combs. Dunno why.
Sometimes when fdn is introduced into the brood nest, they just fill it with
honey which defeats the whole plan which is to give more room for the queen
in the brood area and get honey stored above in the supers.
Again, I suggest getting fdn drawn in honey supers. A good rotation plan is
to replace old brood combs with newer good combs but add fdn to supers
during a strong flow.
If you don't use deeps in honey supers, you can get new combs made by nucs.
New queens seem willing to lay in any comb, and nucs build pretty good
combs, albeit on at a time.
