ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************
As museums and science centers seek to increase their relevance to their
constituencies, they run the risk of making themselves over into
something the constituencies don't recognize or, possibly, just don't
value.
I'm working on a study of museum and science center design as it relates
to the public's expectations of these kinds of institutions. As
important as I believe that study is, the subject of institutions being
recognized and valued for what they are is much larger than architecture
and floor plans.
I would be interested in ASTC member's perceptions of their communities'
parameters for what museums and science centers should be. Have you
observed in your institution or others anything done to the facility,
exhibits or programming that may not have fit the community's
parameters? If so, did it succeed, fail, change to meet expectations or
expand the parameters.
Thanks for your comments.
