I'd just posted an endorsement for Explorit when
Bill's post arrived so I'll add the rationale for
my categorization of Explorit as truly hands-on
with this comment:
Since 1982 Explorit has been honing its own
peculiar style of exhibits - sometimes called
"explorits." Some of the explorits look
deceptively as if they are just for the younger
set, but they are deliberately designed to look
low-tech and user-friendly. Commonly available
materials and equipment are used so that the
science is not camouflaged by technology. One of
my favorites was their exhibition called "On the
Go! The Way Things Move." There was not a
standout item to remember but instead a 1,000 sq
ft gallery of table top experiments and
investigations in a cheerful, inviting, colorful,
environment. To get a feel for what I mean there
is an image of part of the exhibit at
http://www.explorit.org/about/esc_gallery.html
