AquaSchool Coordinator

Nestled in the heart of beautiful Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is internationally recognized as Vancouver's leading visitor attraction, and one of Canada's foremost centres for aquatic education, research and conservation.
Chevron AquaSchool is an innovative educational program that lets grade 4-7 teachers move their classroom to the Aquarium for one week of unforgettable learning.   The classroom teacher designs and implements a long-term interdisciplinary study with an aquatic theme. After weeks of study at school, the student's learning is reinforced when they are immersed in hands-on educational experiences at the Aquarium. The program is generously funded by Chevron Canada Limited

The AquaSchool Coordinator oversees all operations of the Chevron AquaSchool program including: recruitment and selection, development of resources, planning and implementation, safety, volunteer management, appropriate allocation of resources and administration

What we are looking for:

*        B.Sc. in Biology, and/or equivalent experience with animal care, field research or conservation projects.
*        Teaching degree
*        Experience with children - respectful and child-centered management skills.
*        Experience with volunteer supervision, training and recognition.
*        Able to facilitate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
*        Time management, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
*        Commitment to continuing development and implementation of leading-edge conservation education practices.
*        Able to work independently, under pressure, in a dynamic environment
*        Able to appropriately allocate Aquarium resources (i.e. space, human resources, animals, equipment)
*        Empathy, patience, and a strong desire to see others succeed.
