ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Deborah,

I have access to EBSCO through an online service from my local public
library. But, I still find myself buying individual articles and scrambling
for some sources. Wiley and Sage are two I always run into that I need.
AltaMira also has many museum publications including Curator.

I have been lobbying :-) the Visitor Studies Association and ASTC to see if
they would take this on as a member benefit. I would be willing to pay a
reasonable fee per year for an ongoing online bundle that served these
needs. If associations do not wish to do it, I hope you explore offering it
as a subscription fee by your institution. These subscriptions appear to be
targeted to colleges and university libraries. But, our lively community of
practice focuses on PRACTITIONERS working in museums and science
center--just where it should. Researchers and evaluators like me keep our
eye on that productive landscape by operating on the practioners ground. We
need the university perspectives--they are great and the development of
programs is a great advance. But we also want to keep our field centered on
what's important--visitors and institutions that serve them. I hope some
creative thinking is done to provide this services widely--glad you are
taking this step. It is a healthy sign. Please do a presentation on what you
do at ASTC!

I also think a productive way to look at the scope you need would be to take
three fairly recent research and evaluation reports produced by and for your
organization and search for their locations in Google Scholar. The Visitor
Studies Association has recently digitized our publications providing
greater access to those sources. Kudos to Johnny Fraser, David Anderson,
Steve Bitgood and others who managed and contributed to that important work.
Check out access to those at www.vsa.org next week.

Best Regards,

Carey
