Hi Jonah,
I have a couple of ideas...althoug painful can be highly beneficial to us newbies on the block. The format...a short roundtable sharing of information.
1. How does your museum concieve and give birth to a new program? What is the criteria. How do you determine the program fees? (that may be an entirely different discussion). Do you have a roadmap/criteria to follow?
2. I hesitate on this one...disecting contracts for outreach programs....roundtable sharing of invoices/contracts for outreach programs. The information is valuable to small centers like ours while larger museums may have multi pages of legal jargon. We all bring our contracts to share.
3. This one is out there.....We have a group of highly creative, energetic people in packed into one room...I wonder if there is a way to come up with an idea for a new program OR create a demonstration type program on the spot....I know... way out there on this one...brainstorming right now without a clue on how to execute this one.
4. Using outside contractors for programs. I've seem museums who have an entire roster of people (entertainers, storytellers, animal programs) they book through their museum. Our museum has two programs, StarLab and a new program Molecular Mania that will be run by outside contractors...Discovery Center splits the revenue.?Do other?musuems?use outside people??

I see that the prelim conference roster for next fall's ASTC Conference
are up: http://www.astc.org/conference/index.htm I see that MOS seems
to have taken the prize for most shameless session title. ;)
OK, I'll bite - who's the super-secret last minute keynote person?

electricity. You go to the science museum and you put your hand on a
metal ball. Your hair sticks up straight. And you know science."
