I've been watching this string with amusement because this is a semantics issue that has perplexed me for years. My background is in the zoo world, and we would never direct a visitor to "go over to the hippo exhibition".

To address the potential confusion that interchanging "exhibit" with "exhibition" can cause, whenever I write a report I clarify the terms that I will be using throughout. I use the words "component" and "element" to clarify the parts and pieces within an exhibition (or exhibit).

Yes, it would be much easier if we all used the word "exhibition" for a grouping of "exhibits". But, that still sticks on my tongue and stumbles reluctantly out of my mouth. It just doesn't fit my language style and that of many of my clients. Rather than correct clients and struggle myself with the semantics, I've adapted a system that seems to work well for all of us.
