Self-control, and a safety perspective, are the biggest issues for the
students in this activity.
I have had 6th graders do the experiment, and I would never go any
younger. I think 7th grade and up is ideal. It's kind of like shop
class...you didn't get the chance to cut your finger off at least until
the 7th grade.

Helllo Gang,
My question has to do with the famous Baggie Lab - calcium chloride,
baking
soda, phenol red solution, in a zip lock back to observe signs of a
chemical
reaction - What is the youngest age group that you would attempt to do
this
lab during a fieldtrip visit? I know there are safety issues with the
CaCl2.
