All,

Many of you have heard about "Absolute Zero," a two-part PBS special that
illustrates how civilization has been profoundly affected by the mastery of
cold. ASTC (an "AZ" partner) has just gotten word that the program will
premiere on NOVA at 8:00 PM on January 8 and 15, 2008. As usual, check your
local listings for details.

Here's how NOVA describes the shows:

"From refrigeration to MRIs, the study of cold has transformed modern life.
NOVA invites you on a journey through time from the first alchemists who
tried to manufacture cold to the modern-era Nobel Laureates who strived to
reach its ultimate destination."

Absolute Zero is underwritten by the National Science Foundation and the
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and is based largely on Tom Shachtman's acclaimed
book "Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold." A nice web site,
www.absolutezerocampaign.org, includes information about the program and
campaign, plus an outreach guide, an educator's guide, and other
downloadable tools -- all available to ASTC members.
