Among inventors there are many. Roy Plunkett tells the story of his
discovery of Teflon as he didn't know what he had invented, what use there
was for it, or how he had invented it...but it made him famous. The outboard
motor was invented by Ole Evenrude when he couldn't row fast enough to bring
an ice cream cone to his girl friend. Drinking straws, credit cards, and
shopping carts have great stories.

 

My book, Young Inventors at Work, has very short stories about inventions
that might interest you (meant for elementary school kids).
