When I was the newly designated Executive Director at Impression 5 Science
Center in Lansing MI (in the 1980's -- I must have been pretty young since I am
only 38 or 39 now), when I first walked out on the exhibit floor, there was
a medical technology exhibit. One of the display kiosks was on the medical
technology of the future and a featured item was called a "tri-quarter."
You were supposed to be able to wave this device in front of someone and
analyze their health status. A mock-up of one was on display. We could have done
a survey, but we had many visitors who asked us where they could get one or
where they were used. The best we could reply was, "Check with Captain Kirk."

Another museum story, art museum this time. I was in Paris the year the
Pompidou Center opened, which includes a modern art museum. As I traversed a
gallery, I stepped on some sheets of burlap irregularly arranged on the floor.
I said, "Oh my god, I just stepped on some art!" As it turns out, it was
just burlap.
