We use irradiation and it is very cost effective when you consider the time
taken to put new frames together, wire, foundation in and then have bees
draw that comb. If irradiated, the combs are able to be used straight away.
We use a 15kGy dose which is effective against AFB, EFB, nosema and
chalkbrood as well as the viruses.
The one proviso would be that if the combs are contaminated with chemicals.
Then I don't see the irradiation removing that chemical residue from the
comb.
