Yes, this oversight is amazing, and makes the rest of the plan a complete
waste of money.
Rather, if they studied the experience of varroa epidemiology, they might
see that varroa could easily self destruct, if beekeepers didn't repopulate
the feral population from managed hives. The incredible mite immigration
into feral colonies as their neighbors crash completely overwhelms any
colonies having resistance traits. Adrian Wenner's experience demonstrated
that varroa can be used as a weapon for its own suicide.
