Sound tubes, imho, spill a heck of a lot of sound.  I presume if its  
in your lobby you are going to have lots of people; how do you manage  
the volume.

Brown Innovations makes a good dome.  They are hundreds of dollars,  
as opposed to $50.

Some of the new technolgoy, phased array speakers, appear to be  
promising although very expensive.

You don't say what you budget is :).....

It should be fairly easy to prototype, thoughs with a piece of  
plywood and inset the speaker.  at least you'll get an idea of what  
you are really up against (besides maintenance issues)....
