Following up Eric Siegel's earlier posting about the demise of Bell
Labs as a long-range R & D organization, I asked Sheldon Hochheiser,
the longtime archivist for AT & T/Bell Labs (he is now at IEEE
History Center) what had happened to the AT & T archives. He said:
"All pre-split (pre 1996) archival material remains at the AT&T
Archives in Warren NJ, just as they were when I left AT&T in 2004.
The current contact there is George Kupczak. [log in to unmask]
Lucent began a new archives from scratch in 1996.
The new AT&T (that is the old SBC [ie Southwestern Bell], which
acquired AT&T in 2005, and promptly changed its name) is,
fortunately, a company that values history."
