Hello Histarchers,

Here are a few updates on SHA 2011, to be held in January 2011 in Austin,
Texas. I hope those who are on Histarch but not SHA members will forgive
this message, and that SHA members will forgive the redundancy (we are also
posting this as an email blast to our membership).

First: a reminder that the deadline for submitting proposals is fast
approaching -- July 10. If you submit a symposium proposal, we will review
it as soon as possible so that, if it's accepted, your individual presenters
can go in to submit their papers to the ConfTool system. All submissions
have to be in to us by midnight on July 10 (Pacific time). Just go to the
SHA web site (sha.org) and follow the links to the Call for Papers and the
Submissions page.

Second, if you have already submitted a symposium to SHA 2011, you might
want to check the ConfTool system occasionally to see if your symposium has
been accepted. We are trying to keep up with sending individual emails to
all symposium planners once we complete the process of reviewing a
symposium. However, it is (as you might imagine) getting very busy on our
end. So if you have not heard word you can just go to the sha.org web site
and follow the links to check yourself. If you are a symposium organizer,
you can also check to see who has submitted their abstracts to your session.
Let us know if you have problems or questions.

Third, we have room for a few additional roundtable luncheons. These will
take place on the Thursday and Saturday of the conference, and provide
opportunities for like-minded scholars to discuss matters of interest in a
casual way. Roundtable luncheons are often seen as "instructive" events, but
they are also collegial events where participants can share ideas with
people known to them already. All you need to do to host a roundtable
luncheon is to write up a short description of your topic and send it to
Filipe Castro, on the Program Committee. See the Call for Papers at the
sha.org web site for his contact information. The only cost to participants
is for the box lunch provided by the hotel (the Conference Committee pays
for the host's lunch). Participants will be able sign up for the luncheons
during the regular registration period, which opens on October 1.

Fourth, if you are not currently an SHA member but wish to participate
(Austin weather is likely to be great in January!) please do consider
submitting a proposal! One does not have to be a member to participate
(though we do hope you will join!).

Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you in Austin!
