  Annual Salary:  $40,268 (no benefits)
   
  Full-time contractual position with Maryland State Government.
   
  The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), the State Historic Preservation Office, seeks qualified applicants for the full-time, contractual position of Research Archeologist to assist with a project to synthesize archeological data gathered during cultural resources management studies over the past 40 years.  Under the supervision of the Administrator of Archeological Research, the Research Archeologist will be responsible for extracting, compiling, synthesizing, and disseminating data gleaned from unpublished reports.  The Research Archeologist will also be responsible for designing a system for indexing the data, and making it available via various media (printed matter, Internet, etc.).  The position will also assist the Administrator of Archeological Research and other MHT staff in the production of edited volumes resulting from the synthesis project.
   
  The successful applicant must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both orally and in writing.  Minimum qualifications include a Masters Degree in anthropology or closely-related field (archeology emphasis), and three years demonstrated experience in analytical research; experience in both prehistoric and historic archeological research in the Middle Atlantic region preferred.  Computer proficiency (database, spreadsheet, word processing) is a plus.
   
  Position starts on or about, October 15, 2007 and lasts approximately 24 months.
