Nancy,

This ( as I'm certain the list-ers will confirm) is a piece of string
question.

The costs depend on so many factors,
Who's providing the content ( text, photos, video etc) are you or the
developer What do you need in the kiosk, information, or interaction
What level of "design" do you want in the interface.
Do you want to be able to update portions of the software/content in the
future, and do you want the software to be "open" enough for you to make
the changes, or do you need to get the programmer in to make the
changes.

There are many "simple" approaches for you to make information available
on a kiosk.

If the structure of the information is simple enough, you can do useful
things in PowerPoint yourself, using your own design, or based on design
templates - simple, cheap, changeable, but limited in its function.
You can use web design approaches to achieve a lot more, but will
require more skills, but these are more widely available. And then you
can have specific interactive elements included that can add
considerable interest, communication, and cost.

Hardware costs for a simple off the shelf kiosk in Australian dollars
would start at $6,000 Content for some of our simplest units would be
$5,000 , and ranging up to kiosks with $50,000 of content and
interaction.

Most people tend to go with the approach that either matches their
skills, or the skills of people they have worked with previously. Being
in a position to understand how your choices can impact on the costs or
outcomes is very helpful.

If you could be more specific about what you want to achieve, then you
could get some more detailed estimates or suggestions.
Hope this is of some help.

Aloha,
I am trying to come up with a cost estimate for a touch-screen kiosk
exhibit. Are there commercially available software/graphical interfaces
that can be used for touch-screen kiosk applications? If not, roughly
how many hours would you estimate it would take someone to create a
program for the kiosk?
Thank you,
Nancy Ali
