Pianist and Reed Organist Artis Wodehouse Presents A Concert of New
American Keyboard Music on Monday, April 24 at Merkin Concert Hall in
New York - Program Features Two Rarely Performed 19th Century American
Masterpieces

Pianist, reed organist and music historian Artis Wodehouse will present
A Concert of New American Keyboard Music on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 8
PM at Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center, Goodman house, 129 W.
67th Street in Manhattan.

Selections for this landmark concert will be Toccatina Capricciosa (1823)
by Anthony Heinrich (NY Premiere), Ten Pieces for the American Harmonium
(1897) by Arthur Bird (second New York performance - to be performed on
an original 1918 Mason & Hamlin foot-pump organ), Quilt Music (1983) by
New York composer Beth Anderson and Four Duke Ellington Concert Paraphrases
and Transcriptions (NY Premieres). Ms. Wodehouse's program notes about
this remarkable music are available at
http://www.artiswodehouse.com/events.html. The Bird piece will be
performed on an American reed organ from Ms. Wodehouse's collection,
information about which can be found at
http://www.artiswodehouse.com/harmonium.html.

Ms. Wodehouse has written the following about this event, 'My musical
scavenging over the past few years has turned up what I believe to be a
treasure-trove of American keyboard music, gems that have rarely if ever
been performed. But a tree falling in a forest makes no sound unless
it is heard, and so I have planned a public recital in order to put this
music to the test of a live audience.'

Tickets for the April 24 concert are $20, $10 for students and seniors.
For tickets and information, call Merkin Concert Hall at (212) 501-3330
or visit them online at http://www.ekcc.org/merkin.htm.

Pianist, reed organist and music historian Artis Wodehouse is a
specialist in historic sound recordings and a performer of new and
neglected music. The New York Times has cited her as a "savior of the
old and neglected." Time Magazine called her internationally best-selling
1993 recording Gershwin Plays Gershwin: The Piano Rolls on the Nonesuch
label, "A remarkable example of technology put to the service of art."
She has also brought the music of other neglected masters such as Jelly
Roll Morton, Zez Confrey and Dana Suesse back to life through recordings
for Nonesuch, Pearl and Warner Classics and publications for Warner
Bros., Oxford University Press, Hal Leonard Publishing and others. She
has also recorded the electro-acoustic Invisible Cities by Michael McNabb
on the Wergo Label. Her full website can be seen at
