I have both recordings (EMI and Tahra) and I can assure, regarding the
Ninth of the Lucerne Festival of 1954, that this recording is the best
Ninth ever recorded. Even the mono sound is fabulous. The Adagio then
is absolutely marvelous. Anyone who listen to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
knows what is going to happen. The notes are all there and they are
familiar stuff. After listening to Furtwangler's 1954 recording of this
piece I was speechless.
