I paid bottle deposits back in the "Dark Ages" of the 30's in the
amount of $.02 per bottle. You would then get credit for the bottles
when you bought new drinks or you could return the bottles and get
your $.02 cents back. Bought many a movie ticket $.10 with returned
bottles. Sneaked in a pack of cigarettes for $.18 every once in a while.
