I have a mystery artifact recovered from the surface of the Canville
Trading Post (circa 1840s-1850s). The ferrous piece has a rough "figure
8" shape, 3 3/8" long and 1 3/4". One loop of the "figure 8" is solid
has a notch on the bottom and a curved head on the top. The other end
is an open loop, possibly used as finger hold. It has been suggested
that this might have been a cobbler's tool. If you are interested in
seeing a photo of this artifact (and hopefully can identify it) please
contact me.
