There are many connections between Star Trek and Archaeology. The following
is but one.
If you have ever been to Blackwater Draw or ENMU in Portales/Clovis New
Mexico, then you may have seen the Star Trek props on display at the
Blackwater Museum. They have two huge prehistoric spears that were used in
an original Star Trek episode that has Spock, McCoy, Scotty and others on a
planet where they are attacked by a giant cave man. In the episode you see
the spears come in from offscreen and attempt to kill the crew. The large
spears (approximately 15 feet long) are hanging on the wall in the
Blackwater Museum, crossing each other and forming an X, in a room with a
mammoth skeleton. Once you learn of their origin, its hard not to keep a
straight face when you see them.
