Research Associate Position


The Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Technological  
University invites applications for a Research Associate position in  
support of its industrial archeology lab and graduate programs.   The  
appointment is to begin about May 1, 2006, and extends until August  
31.  Pending the availability of funding the position will be renewed  
for an additional year.

Required qualifications include  a Master’s degree industrial  
archeology or historical archeology.  The successful applicant will  
be expected to participate in the operation of the industrial  
archeology lab, especially in support the summer field school and  
course activities by graduate students.  The position carries with it  
the expectation of participation in externally-funded research  
projects with faculty and graduate students, including the  
preparation and oversight of proposals for small, externally-funded  
field research projects.  The Research Associate occasionally  
supervises graduate students in the laboratory and on field  
projects.  The Research Associate must possess excellent oral/written  
communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated competence in  
field archeology methods and ability to supervise such projects,  
including curation of artifacts; and competence in photography.  In  
addition, the research associate must possess demonstrated  
professional writing skills and the ability to assist graduate  
students with research activities.  It is preferred that the  
successful candidate possess competence in website design and/or  
GIS.  The annual salary will be $36,000 with fringe benefits.
