I highly recommend making emergency arrangements with taxidermists to use 
their freeze dryers to get rid of the moisture and eliminate mold. Back in 1985, 
a huge fire hit 64 houses in Normal Heights, San Diego, California and my 
field crew rushed up to help 85-year old Abraham Nasatir dig out of the ashes. We 
found 40 boxes of charred and soaked documents that we air dried for 12 hours 
and then rushed to a meat locker freezer. Once we lined up the taxidermist, it 
took a year to freeze dry the documents. The charring required photo copies 
to be made and most of the originals to be destroyed. The rules are simple: air 
dry for 12 hours; freeze in huge freezers or freezer trucks; then freeze dry.
