ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.
*****************************************************************************
The NY Hall of Science is currently seeking science centers, museums
and other institutes of informal learning to participate in the Science
Career Ladder Dissemination Project. Over the next three years, the
Hall will work with 16 sites to implement the best practices of this
innovative education, employment and mentoring program that prepares
students for careers in science, technology and education fields. The
program employs approximately 150 urban minority high school and
college students each year as Explainers, trained to provide exhibit
interpretation, science demonstrations, orientation and workshop
support for visitors. The benefits of the program include improved
visitor experiences, innovative fund-raising opportunities and
intelligent, articulate, outgoing and successful examples of young
people on a positive track to a career in the sciences.
Using the Science Career Ladder as a model, the Hall will work with
each organization to craft a youth development program that will fit
with their organizational structure and strategic goals. Two staff
members from each selected institution will attend a training in New
York, followed by phone conferences and site visits by members of the
Hall of Science staff. For more information or to receive an
application, please respond offline by sending an email to
