I have often been disappointed by revisiting performances I knew from the
past, however, by comparison, I would guess the opposite is usually the
case for me.
However, thinking about Kubelik and Chicago reminds me of so many stories
of orchestras losing their way artistically for extra musical reasons. I
am not suggesting that Reiner was anything other than one of the finest of
musicians, but I feel that Chicago lost when Kubelik left.
