Hi to all of you,
Even if there is no real reason to "prepare" nipples by the end of pregnancy, a friend of mine has asked me some question about:
once a day, prepare natural tea infusion; then apply compresses of this tea infusion onto the nipple during 10-15 minutes, during the last month of pregnancy;
We could have a smile to this; our present and last recommendations are: do nothing (inverted/retracted nipples apart);
Thus my friend had 2 grand-grand-mothers, one was herbalist, and her other grand-grand-mother was a pretty good wet-nurser and a kind of herbalist-amateur. The herbalist grand-grand-mother wrote many things and she used to add comments toward breastfeeding, so did the wet-nurser foremother. As an example, "hypericum perforatum drank by the mom may indisposes the baby or may spoil the milk".(spoil=link about the indisposition of the baby) it was end 1800's beginning 1900's; if one reads present books about plants, there are not so many "new things" in fact compared to this foremother.
In teas one can find: tannins, vitamins, minerals, theophylline, tea is antioxidant....
So I am wondering if you could have any comments about it, has this "prescription" been on duty in your countries, has it been wide applied? I have found nothing at the moment about this; I have heard of many "things" to apply onto the nipple (for example lemon juice... rub the nipple gently with a toothbrush.... which may strip rather than bring vitamins and minerals of the tea compress..... maybe if I had the time I could make a book or a large chapter about it....)
So if you had any ideas...
Thanks in advance
