having originally studied in calgary, i favour dep'ts of archaeology 
separate from anthro... then encourage and make it easier for students to 
study some history, anthro, geology, linguistics, etc., instead of erecting 
all the bureaucratic obstacles which seem to have more to do with 
maintaining bureaucratic control on funding than "broadening horizons" or 
whatever cliche it is they're disseminating in the glossy prospectuses 
(prospecti?) sent out to prospective customers (sources of revenue?) these 
days...
it all seems to revolve around infighting & protecting fiefdoms more than it 
does to things like reason, common-sense, "science" or whatever positive 
values we're supposed to be passing-on to young, impressionable minds...
